What is Driver CPC
It’s a certificate of professional competence for professional drivers. The Driver CPC is a compulsory requirement which has been introduced across the European Union to maintain high driving standards, improve the knowledge and skills of drivers and enhance road safety. All professional Lorry Drivers (drivers of 7.5 tonnes and above) must now hold a Driver CPC qualification (unless granted grandfather rights until September 2014).
When Must I Have Completed my Driver CPC By?
Lorry drivers that have held their license (C, C1, CE, C1E) prior to 10 September 2009 will have acquired rights until the 9 September 2014. If you wish to keep your driving licence and continue driving for a living beyond this date, you will need to complete 35 Hours of periodic training and be issued a DCPC Card by September 2014. New drivers coming into the profession will need to pass the initial qualification to gain their vocational driving license and qualify for their Driver CPC. Then the driver is required to take 35 hours of periodic training every five years from the date they have passed the initial qualification.
All drivers will need to complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years. The minimum length of each training session is seven hours. This can be split into two parts however the second part must take place within 24 hours of completion of the first part.
Courses for Driver CPC will cover a variety of modules which may include, defensive driving techniques, first aid, health and safety, driver’s hour’s regulations and tachographs.
Where Can I Complete My Driver CPC Training?
To complete Driver CPC Training you will need to attend a course with a JAUPT recognised company. Once you have completed each session it will be the responsibility of the training centre to enter records onto a DSA central database.
Drivers will be issued automatically on successful completion of 35 hours of Driver CPC training a DQC (Driver Qualification Card). Drivers that have acquired rights will be able to use their driving license as proof of their Driver CPC status until they have completed their 35 hours training within the first five year cycle at which point they will be issued with a DQC.
